A Visit with All Saints’ “Holy Cow”!

Holy cow kids Oder

Thank you, All Saints by the Sea!

In the Spring of 2015, All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church in Montecito, California, made a very generous donation of $3,000 to buy three cows for the Abakundana (“Those Who Love Each Other”) Pygmy (Twa) Cooperative in southwest Rwanda. This is the first time this community has ever had cows. The animals are an incredible gift, offering an important source of protein through their milk, and fertilizer which is crucial for the crops.

All Saints members suggested 83 names for their three cows. The community voted, and chose the names Betsy, Grace, and Holy Cow! See the cow delivery here.

Last weekend, our Rwandan Program Director, Justin Bisengimana, traveled 9 hours – from Kigali to the Burindi border – to visit the Twa community. He sent us a few lovely photos and a few minutes of video from a spontaneous little visit with the children who were keeping Holy Cow company when he arrived. He also visited Evelyne and her friends who working the fields where the soy crops are big and bountiful thanks to the cow manure they are using for the first time to fertilize their crops.

This community holds All Saints in their hearts every day,
for the abundance they have provided.
