World Dancers spreading joy and making the deepest human connections
In December of 2012, the World Dancers performed for retired communities and homes for the disabled in Santa Barbara. All of our hearts were opened…and filled. It was the highpoint of our holiday season! Huge thanks to Juanita Johnson who organized the visits, to Hymon Johnson and Larry Bilow who photographed the visits, and to all the dancers who took time during the busy holiday season to bring joy to our community! STAY TUNED FOR OUR 2013 OUTREACH!

Juanita Johnson
“As soon as we finished our first performance at Heritage House I knew we were onto something very real and meaningful. I think we all had that reaction. All day we experienced the true healing power of dance and music. It was a circle of joy…for us and the people we danced for. This was a day of pure “heart to heart.” You know how you always say, “Don’t look at yourself, look at all the dancers in the room”? Well, we did it this time. I felt we danced as one loving family of friends. A very special day, indeed!”
Jennifer Schwarz
“I think whenever we can add a little light to these folks’ days it’s an honor and privilege. It was an incredibly heartwarming and meaningful day for me and I am so grateful to have participated. What amazing people these are. They made my Christmas and holiday!”
Jatila van der Veen
“At first, it was hard not to cry, especially dancing for the folks in the sub-acute facility, but it felt so good to be doing something positive for folks society forgets about. Especially in the light of the current tragedies, I’m so very grateful for the opportunity to give even a small bit of pure joy, love, and light to a few people. Makes me want to do more of this. Thank you thank you, Janet and Juanita for organizing these shows.”

“I always find the same word coming to mind when talking about the World Dance: privilege. I find it is an absolute privilege to be on the giving side of what we do in WD, whether it be just having fun in the studio (with the greatest group of ladies ever) or dancing together for people who are trying to heal or live out their days with dignity. I feel beyond blessed that I am part of this giving process, and though it has been said many times….what we receive, as we participate, is absolutely priceless.”
