Presenting the WD4H Rwanda Class of 2015
Justin Bisengimana: “Education is the key to changing the world. I wish words would be enough to express my gratitude toward all contributors to our WD4H 2014 Education Fund. We had no idea how this money could be raised, but you made it happen! You made a way for 132 young people to pursue their dreams. Please try to feel how impactful your sponsorship is in their lives. Those who had no chance to go to school are going to school. The relationships between sponsors and students is growing. This is the true community needed to transform human lives and destinies. Thank you so much for giving your love and support. It means so much on this journey to bring changes into our communities.”
Thanks to funds raised from World Dance classes, our Thriller event, and contributions from student sponsors, we were able to raise $40,000 in 2014 to pay for the education of 132 grammar school, high school, and college students in 2015. Each of these students has a Sponsor they exchange letters with during the year.
The students are in schools all over the country, some in very remote areas. Working with the students over the course of the year, assessing the students after each quarter, and paying their fees in January is a huge job for our Rwanda staff, Justin, Dany, and Chantal. They work with co-op leaders at the end of the year to choose the students based on need, desire, and dedication to contributing to their communities. It takes the entire month of January just to get all the student fees paid at individual banks and documents to each school.
It’s a big job translating and delivering all the letters between the students and their sponsors, but it’s a crucial part of our program: every student knows there’s someone a world away who CARES about them and champions their education.

Youth Leadership Training
In December 2014 we held a training for all secondary school and college students. Our sponsored students from cooperatives all over Rwanda had the experience of a lifetime. They got to know each other, learned about each other’s lives, and trained on leadership and entrepreneurship on the path to becoming the future leaders of their communities. Letters between Sponsors and Students
The letters, photos, and videos exchanged during the year create a beautiful bond between students and their sponsors. When the students read these letters, they know someone cares about their education. They feel a responsibility to work hard, knowing someone is truly interested in their progress. Assessment and Support
Our Rwanda Team visits the students several times a year to check up on their progress, their commitment to their studies, and see if they have any special needs. It also gives students a sense of belonging, knowing the team, and their Sponsor, cares about them.
Deepest thanks to everyone who is helping to give these young people
the chance to carve a new future for themselves and their communities!
