“Break the Chain” with World Dance for Humanity
Dedicated to the memory of Nancy Koppelman – humanitarian, activist, and strident spirit!
The theme of this year’s Solstice Parade is “Celebrating Unity,” and we’ll be performing “Break the Chain,” an exciting, powerful dance that protests violence against women and celebrates the female spirit.
We will be dancing in memory of Nancy Koppelman – an extraordinary woman, radiant spirit, and unrelenting champion of human rights and women’s empowerment who passed away in May. Nancy was an inspiration to all of us who knew her, and will be deeply missed. It was Nancy who first introduced us to a worldwide event called “One Billion Rising,” and a dance called “Break the Chain.”
So far we have 63 dancers, 6 make-up artists, and 5 parade helpers! Everyone is welcome to come learn the dance with it and perform it this weekend. It’s easy to learn – you can learn it in ONE PRACTICE. Don’t be shy! It’s not about the steps or how you look…it’s about the spirit we can bring to this special celebration!
Not into dancing but want to be part of the celebration? We still need volunteers! Join our makeup team, give water to the dancers, or capture the moment in photos or video…
